Arriving at grant's i know I'll be welcomed by friendly staff, the food is delicious and worth every penny, every item is served with real fried salt and pepper potato chips made fresh daily and you can enjoy your meal inside or out.
It was our first time to eat here and I'd say it was just ok. But for the price & after reading all the wonderful reviews, my expectations were high. Unfortunately the food didnt live up to my expectations. They asked if we wanted onions & peppers. We didnt realize that the sandwiches didnt come with them. They were an $1 extra charge. My husband was going to ask for some mayo for his sandwich until he realized they charge $1 for extra for it also. The service was great though & everyone was super friendly. If it had been a $20 meal it might have been better..but definitely wasnt worth $41 for 2 sandwich, fry, & drink combos.
As a New Yorker nothing warms this fat boys soul then a well made steak and cheese sangwich thanks yous guys
What is served here is not a Philly cheesesteak. I lived there for almost two decades and was never given an open face sandwich with pickled peppers and salty meat. For the price I paid, I shouldn't have left hungry, either. I really wanted to like this place. If it didn't claim to have Philly cheesesteaks, my expectation wouldn't have been so high and I wouldn't be so critical, but it was a big let down.
There Philly cheesesteak sandwiches are excellent! The original is to die for.........you'll be hooked!!
I've never had a better philly. phenomenal people and food. have you ever had a meal so good you think about it the next day/week? then go out of your way to post an online review? and drive out of the way to purchase said meal? that's how good it is.
Best sandwich I have ever eaten.way worth the price!!
I used to love their Philly cheesesteaks. However recently there appeared to have been some changes in staff and lately my ordered cheesesteaks have been mediocre at best and made with stingy amounts of toppings unlike before, definitely not that perfect Philly cheesesteak that I normally come here for and am willing spend all that money on. Speaking of which, their menu items always have been quite pricy but with the recent inconsistency of a good Philly cheesesteak, it’s totally not worth it anymore.
I came here completely by accident, and it was among my greatest discoveries in Portland. This may seem like a small niche restaurant, but don't let that fool you, this is home to some exceptionally delicious food. The service is always friendly, and I love the selection of different cheesesteaks. Totally recommended.
This place does NOT wear masks! The food is good, but they are not being safe!
Yum. Hard to find a good cheese steak, much less a great one. We will be back 😊
Me and my crew drive from Vancouver just to have an original philly and they hit it spot on, I'll definitely be back again.
Really good cheesesteaks and they are huge!!
Sandwich was pretty good. Bread was too soggy though.
I have been going to Grant's for about a year now and they had the best sandwiches I have ever had but what I was served today was disgusting the bread was soaking wet and it was a super small compaired to what it was and my order was wrong and they weren't even busy. I dont know what happened but damn shame.
Food was good and didn't take long to make. The woman working the front was totally miserable though. No smile and not even a hello. She seemed to hate her job. I don't understand why people stay in places they hate. Find a place you like. I get excited when I go to Grant's. I'm from Philly and love a good tastykake and cheese steak. I would at least like a happy staff when I spend triple Philly prices to have a taste of home.
Really good cheesesteaks but pricey.
I was very dissatisfied with the size of the sandwich for the price I paid. With a soda was $11.10. Sandwich very tiny, little bit of meat and some cheese. It was very tasty don't get me wrong, but very small.
I love the sandwiches here! And the service. They have a combo you can get filled up on. The original is out of the world.
Food was pretty good. Loved the chips and sandwiches. The cheese fries are way over priced for what they are. Going to go back to try the half pound hot dog and the pounder burger for sure!
Prices are getting high and the taste isnt getting better (doesn't taste as good as it used to) but it still taste OK.I prob won't get it anymore if the price keeps going up. But worth a try
Baby let me tell you, The fries, chips & the Philly Cheese steak Is LIFE!
Wow, what a great sandwich. I have no idea how I managed to eat it all along with the house made chips, it was just soo amazing that I could not stop eating. The peppers were great spicy, but not to overpowering. I was a rebel and had mine with Cheese Wiz and it was fantastic. The staff have been friendly and always seem to be happy,(which says a lot in itself if you have ever been in the food business) I am glad I experienced this place I cant wait to eat here again.
They are open on Sundays now!! A little spendy but their philly cheesesteaks are amazing. They are made fresh and the house chips are great.
A cozy diner - the service is better than the food... and the food is great :-)
Awesome food cart on Mississippi Avenue in North Portland. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. My friends and I tried for the items and they were wonderful
It's good, read some reviews online and thought I'd have it for lunch it actually was really good. It almost looks like they cut and season their own potato chips and that's a nice touch.
The older woman who works here appears to be the most atrocious manager I have ever seen run a business. I came to this little spot last week and was very much enjoying the food- delicious... However, that was spoiled relatively quickly after witnessing the manager absolutely scream at an employee. I felt so horrible watching the fella behind the counter and I was in absolute disbelief that this woman was screaming and being incredibly rude IN FRONT of a room full of customers. Everyone around me in the dining area looked to be just as horrified as I was. I will never return to this restaurant in light of this event. The owner of this place should replace this woman ASAP.
What a great place to eat 💕 It’s a small Business that serves the best Philly cheese sandwiches. The staff is amazing especially the sweet older lady, I love her energy she always checks to see if my table is well taken care of. Support this business everyone, I highly recommend it. -City girl from Seattle 💖😊
Freshly made to order & SO delicious! Staff was amazing too
Greeted with a friendly hello as I walked in. Ordered the #1 and sat down. Shortly after the sandwich arrived and well, after one bite I was hooked. Delicious and worth stopping in.
If I could give a 0 I would. Worst meal I have ever had. If I wanted a block of cream cheese on bread I wouldn’t spend 20$ for it. No meat soggy bun only thing good about the meal was the fries and that’s hard to mess up. Never eat here
After having worked here for a short while, here’s what I have to say... Best philly cheese steak you will ever have, and worth the price BECAUSE 2 entire steaks go into 1 full sandwich. That’s a lot of meat. But... If you want a perfect sandwich, don’t call during rush hour. They’re more likely to be sloppy. And my personal preference for who cooks is Brandon, he really makes the sandwiches juicy. The other cooks that I know of are the co owners sons and the last two times I’ve ordered they’ve completely skimped me on cheese. But regardless, the sandwiches are DELICIOUS, as is everything else. Except the “home made” chips, they suck. Lol.
Ordered a Whole Original Provolone Philly Cheese steak sandwich. AWESOME!!
Yummy awesome food! Great staff. Little spendy but worth it!
Sandwiches are awesome. Service and cook time were great. Love the new layout. I will be back for more.
Best Philly's there pepper give it such good flavor, and there customer service is awesome always friendly.
Mom and Pop shop, so you may pay a little more. However, it is worth every extra penny. Excellent food with oversized portions.
It was ok. Jersey Mike's is better in my opinion. Wife didn't like the smell of the meat. I got the provolone and steak. It was ok. Didn't really enjoy the homemade chips. Too much garlic powder for me. The cheese fries were good.
Small cozy place with really tasty food and great staff service, will come again soon!
I wish I would have tried this place a long time ago. Absolutely perfect sandwich, and the woman at the counter was very sweet. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars.
This is one of the best places to grab a quick sandwich Philip awesome service and food so tasty
Portland, this is the spot you go to when you want a Philly. My grandpa is from Philly and I spent summers there when i was a kid. My food pyramid during those summers was cheese steaks and deli meats. These are authentic, delicious, and addictive. Eat here!
I love a good philly cheesesteak and this was not one. Had pickled hot pepers not red and green bell pepers, no onion, no mushrooms and not very much cheese. Had been wondering about this place, but was disappointed.
I hate to be negative because I think Grants has great food. But today I was so disappointed with the service It will be some time before I consider returning. The young woman answered phone as though she just woke up and was same in person.. I was given a time to pick up 12-15 minutes. When I arrived in 15 minutes there was no acknowledgement what so ever. I had to ask to get help after standing an additional n15 minutes. I ordered a single hamburger whi h took 35 minutes. Two other customers had to ask how much longer because it was so slow. No sense of urgency. I surely hope this was just one bad day for the staff. On the bright side the hamburger was very good. If the young lady acknowledge customers and explained they were a bit backed up this would have bee. A 5 star review.
The cheese steak was ok but really mediocre. I still haven't found a great cheese steak in Portland except downtown in the plaza.
Delicious food, good people, and will be going back.
Great food and service. Price reflects portions. We took a lot home
Very good, but can't justify spending $15 on a sandwich regularly. Will come back when I have the munchies or feel like being a fat***.
